Not really. Any free software (I hate that term, it sounds so much like
Freeware, which has a VERY negative connotation to me) pdf viewer is
acceptable.

So would the correct policy be to recommend Evince and SumatraPDF, and
perhaps work out interop problems with them?
I'm using Okular, which is KDE's pdf viewer, and I have never had any
problems with lilypond scores...
