En bidouillant, j'ai trouvé un truc bizarre qui ne réponds pas tout à fait à ta question, mais bon :

\version "2.19.58"

\relative c''{

\repeat unfold 4{a (b c d}

\alternative {{a b c d)}}

}

Sinon, pour plus de 2 répétitions, je ferais :

\version "2.19.58"

\relative c''{

a4 (\repeat unfold 4{b c d a}

b c d)

}
