You can check your .tex file for src specials like:

    \special{src:1:2 foo.ly}

Yes they are there, and they are nonzero.

(server-start) in my .emacs


did you try restarting the server by hand?

Yep, I issued (server-start) C-x C-e - and it didn't help...


export XEDITOR='..'

Then point and click stops working.

but still emacs (21.2.1) only jumps to the correct line, not the
correct comlumn.

Strange.  Does it jump to *a* column at all?

It jumps to column zero.

Btw, I did not apply any patches to emacs - as I only read the refman and not the Wiki (before now). I found no patch for emacs 21.2.1 - and I really don't like the idea of installing a new emacs, messing up my redhat.
