Some piano reads only .mid files, not .midi. But if you rename them to .mid
no problem.
The midi file format is based on tags. The norm allows softwares to put in a
midi file lot of tags, in almost any order. That's why midi file are usually
very different, depending on which program generated them.

The problem, i noticed that some midi readers, even widespread ones, read
midi files only if the tags and their order obey to some rules. The rules
being different for each reader. For some of them, you must proceed by trial
and error to find the rules.

Some time ago, i began writing a "minimal midi file format description".
This is basically the official midi norm, plus all the restrictions of the
most current midi readers. If you write midi file according to it, you are
sure that most midi readers will be able to read it.

But i had not the time to finish it. If anyone has a document like this, or
just a description of some restrictions, i'm still interested.
