As far as I know, you can make the sweeps clear to your drummer by writing them down as tied notes. Every note will represent the lenght of a brush sweep.

So, for instance:

\drums {
  \time 3/4
sn2^"brush" ~ sn4 ~ | sn4 ~ sn2 }

Hi,

Does anyone out there know the proper notation for a snare drum with a
pair of wire brushes - where the drummer does that circle gesture on the
drum head to produce a sustained sound, and sometimes the other hand
plays a different beat?

I know this isn't lily specific, but it is notation.
