[loongson-buildfarm] binutils and as versions - what to put on the build

Subject: [loongson-buildfarm] binutils and as versions - what to put on the build farm / build1?

 * -P- #gnewsense-dev -- nyu :: djbclark: can you install the stock
binutils in dev box, and remote lemote URL?
 * -P- #gnewsense-dev -- nyu :: djbclark: it seems we're running into
problems due to using lemote development version of binutils

So my experience is that linux builds only work with the lemote binutils
   + a patched version of "as" that is outside of their binutils .deb.

Currently on build1 we have:

build1:~# md5sum /usr/bin/as /usr/bin/as-bak /usr/bin/as-correct
cefc15692c4a0626c457a119a845d198  /usr/bin/as
2fcdbb8153b7471f73d70b09d5699d03  /usr/bin/as-bak
69ba1f7e86dacc0ad9e3b784eb8b99e7  /usr/bin/as-correct

build1:~# dpkg -p binutils
Package: binutils
Priority: optional
Section: devel
Installed-Size: 9500
Maintainer: Matthias Klose <address@hidden>
Architecture: mipsel
Version: 2.18.1~cvs20080103-7.loongson.r02
Provides: elf-binutils
Depends: libc6 (>= 2.7-1)
Suggests: binutils-doc (= 2.18.1~cvs20080103-7.loongson.r02)
Conflicts: elf-binutils, gas, modutils (<< 2.4.19-1)
Size: 2866266
Description: The GNU assembler, linker and binary utilities
 The programs in this package are used to assemble, link and manipulate
 binary and object files. They may be used in conjunction with a
 compiler and various libraries to build programs.

The "as" lemote sent me via email a while ago that works for building
linux is:
lemote-mini:~# md5sum /usr/bin/as-new
69ba1f7e86dacc0ad9e3b784eb8b99e7  /usr/bin/as-new

So the problem may just be that lemote pushed a more recent version of
their binutils that (a) overwrote the super-special as, (b) is generally
broken in some way, or (c) both.

Anyway if someone with more of a toolchain clue than I have wants to
suggest what to do, I will implement that suggestion.

Thanks,
