Using markups within words

Hi,

I'm trying to figure out a way to call Lout functions within a word,
without having the unwanted side-effect of adding extra spaces in the
output.

For instance, in address@hidden', address@hidden' gets printed; however, in
`things @B { like } that', `like' is bold but extra spaces are added.
One possible solution I found is using @Null as in address@hidden'
which works well in this case. However, @Null removes surrounding
concatenations. So in address@hidden {} @B { bold }' (where @LP is a macro that
expands to `//address@hidden'), @LP vanishes.

Looking at the expert's guide, I thought something like `{ | @Null | }'
would yield the empty object without having any side-effect but it
doesn't seem to be the case.

Any idea?

Thanks,
Ludovic.
