Follow-up Comment #2, task #7490 (project lwip):

Just thought this is a rather small change, so could go in to 1.3.0...

Having a size parameter should be good to reduce memory usage of the stack
(UDP mboxes can be smaller than TCP mboxes with a big recv window).

The problem that remains is that tcpip_input() can fail which results in
memory leaks. Of course, this can be solved by a counter also (like SO_RCVBUF)
but that adds code size, too!

On the other hand, solving this with a counter has the advantage that some
space in the mbox is left for application tasks communicating with
tcpip_thread. The mbox being full in that case locks up the stack anyway...
