Refer to section 6.2 and 6.3 in above document. This functionality would enable LWIP applications to not only resolve .local host names on LANs without the need to update or manage a DNS server, but also enables the application to 'listen' for multicast DNS changes and multiple responses. For example finding devices that offer specific services on the local network.
