I'm hoping Rory can test it on his machines before a release. He has a
lot of different machines :-) Are you there Rory?

Cvs branching is a mess, so I hope we can avoid it, lets first see if
we actually need to release a 3.1.1 bugfix version. Anyway it's a good
idea to keep major new functionality out of the cvs repository for a
week after the 3.1 release.
