It's tripping over this file (the <..> are unprintable bytes):
libpurple/plugins/<CA><EE><EF><E8><FF> log_reader.c
and saying that it can't convert that to utf8, because those unprintable
bytes don't mean anything in locale 'C' (which is what it thinks you're
using).
That error message could certainly be better.
