[Myexperiment-discuss] RE: Why don't scientists share data?

Thanks Duncan! This is very timely.  I'm on day 4 of my factfinding mission 
about use of research data.  On Tuesday we were at MIT and saw W3C, senseable 
cities and Mike Stonebraker (databases!), yesterday we had a fab day at Harvard 
and found strong social science connections and technology-wise everything from 
computational chemistry on mobile phones to GPU preprocessing of data streams 
from instruments (their HPC class is attended by 20 computer scientists and 40 
scientists!)  Also saw Science Commons - crikey, issues of derivative works 
from mashups is tough! We're asking everyone a set of questions to do with 
their changing practice in research data use and the behaviours of their 
communities - getting some evidence from the coalface :)  We have an evolving 
talk which is all about e-Science as co-evolution. :-)  I'll blog the trip so 
far at the weekend - there is no time in the schedule to write, except perhaps 
at baggage carousels but so far suitcase delivery has been too timely!  Turns 
out we'll be bumping into Doug Kell's mission for a weekend in Seattle.  Watch 
this space :-)
