OK I am able to reproduce a strange output problem.

1) Manually create a file that has this content

1 line
2 line
3 line
4 line
5 line
6 line
7 line
8 line
9 line
0 line

2) then move to the "1 line"

3) set the mark (i.e CTRL-^)

4) move to the line just after "0 line", basically marking everything.

5) CTRL-k

6) CTRL-u a few times

7) Scroll up with CTRL-y, some lines will have a number, but not the
word "line".

8) Scroll up and Scroll down several times and see the strange output.
Try different things with scrolling and moving around with cursor keys.

9) You can also hit CTRL-l to update the screen to show that something
is wrong.

10) I actually get different results if the smooth scrolling is on and
off.  Both states appear to not update the screen properly.
