The origin of msh might be interest, perhaps at its funeral :-).
In a conversation with Marshall Rose, mostly about other things, I spoke,
briefly (obviously not very coherently), about the relationship between mh and
the shell. Marshall went home and implemented the first version of msh.
In the ensuing decades, I've never had occasion to use it.
