You could also try 'sharutils' http://www.gnu.org/software/sharutils/
which can deal with splitting and emailing files, even binary ones,
for reassembly by the receiver. I still use shar; not because I need
to. But, because the script I wrote back in the UUCP days is still
working via cron and I can't see fixing what's not broken.
