Follow-up Comment #8, bug #33018 (project octave):
On my system, the suitesparse headers are installed in
/usr/include/suitesparse. I moved them to /app/include and ran configure with
configure CPPFLAGS=-I/app/include
and there was no problem finding amd.h or any of the other suitesparse header
files. The configure script did not stop "after looking in
${PATH}/suitesparse".
