Follow-up Comment #2, bug #39345 (project octave):
You are right, the problem is not due to the fact that the arguments are cell
arrays, but because the elements are symbolic expressions. For instance, this
fails:
assert (sym ("x"), sym ("x"))
Anyway, the patch is still necessary. However, if you decide to apply it,
please change the description.
