Follow-up Comment #1:

Could you say more?  The only Makefile I locate using find in the libgui
directory is the Makefile at the topmost dir.  Inside I find three instances
of the regexp 'rm .*\*' and they are all associated with automatically
generated automake targets, not our own coding.  I checked in libinterp and
the Makefile there has the same three targets with wildcards.
