Follow-up Comment #3, bug #41186 (project octave):
I think both the nested function and the loop is ok in this case. Here the
nested function is actually using variables from the enclosing function, so
the nesting is actually helpful. As for looping, the performance hit is not
significant, since the matrix being looped over is generally tiny.
