Follow-up Comment #4, bug #43519 (project octave):
On my computer the situation is reversed and the sparse case runs much faster
than the full one.
With L = 2000 and the example code from comment #2,
octave:1> L = 2e3
L = 2000
octave:2> eigs_perf
Elapsed time is 3.27069 seconds.
Elapsed time is 0.664507 seconds.
This is Octave version 3.8.2 compiled from scratch running on Kubuntu 12.04.
The arpack library is version 3.0.2-3.
