Follow-up Comment #5, bug #43305 (project octave):

THe short answer is as you recommend: provide
both symmetric and periodic and return 8 for length
8 for both.

AND, an explanation in the Manual would help, with a
reference to Harris.

If anyone has an argument for another choice, it
should be considered.

Users may want both choices, if only to reproduce
someone else's results...
