Follow-up Comment #2, bug #53800 (project octave):

figure seems valid...  I mean, it returns a number.  :-)

Since exit and quit throw exceptions, we could catch those and turn them into
warnings.  That's probably better than trying to detect a list of forbidden
expressions.
