True, unfortunately, Octave doesn't use those variables and instead calls pkg-config with its own set of options. I don't know if there's a way to use the autoconf pkg-config support without implicitly creating these help strings. Setting that aside, I'm still curious about your system configuration. Your Qt pkg-config -I options include the directories /usr/local/Cellar/qt/5.12.0/lib/QtGui.framework/Headers and /usr/local/Cellar/qt/5.12.0/lib/QtCore.framework/Headers. Does qvariant.h live under those directories anywhere? Or does it only exist under /usr/local/opt/qt5/include?
