Follow-up Comment #17, bug #56151 (project octave):

@Torsten: I find the same behavior as you.  Up arrow is doing a search through
history using the first part of the line.  It seems like it should be possible
to use an inputrc to bind the up arrow to "prev-history" but I don't know the
exact escape sequence for the up arrow (probably depends on terminal such as
rxvt, xterm, aqua, etc.)
