I actually don't think that -O2 changes semantics for gfortran; possibly
you were thinking about -ffast-math or the like? Do you have more
information about what this should hurt or why one shouldn't use it?
Usually, -O2 should be a good thing for gfortran. And in general,
please report any "problems" -O2 causes as gfortran bug.
