Indeed, the problems seems to be the autocompletion "feature"
Writing an m file with the auto-completion disabled seems to be ok.

 
"Do not spend too much time in the lab, or you will get a one pack!!"
(Instead of a six pack abs!!)

By "the bug is still going on", do you refer to a specific bug at the
bug tracker (http://savannah.gnu.org/bugs/?group=octave)?

Does the crash happen regardless what you are typing or is it possibly
related to the auto-completion feature? (There are already some reports
related to this).
Could you please disable this feature in the settings and try again?
