This always seems to happen when we threaten to actually make a release. I guess people suddenly feel there is time pressure and want to try to report all their problems, hoping they will be fixed before the next release. I suspect this wouldn't happen so dramatically if we make more frequent releases. Of course more frequent releases would probably bring other problems.
