Follow-up Comment #1, patch #8513 (project octave):

As mentioned on the mailing list, this set of functions would belong to the
mapping toolbox which is currently unmaintained. Also, a Matlab compatible
version of this functions is preferable.

* profile - could this be implemented to be compatible with mapprofile() ?

* coverage - could this be implemented to be compatible with los2() or
viewshed() ?

It seems to me that your functions do part of those Matlab functions. You
wouldn't have to implement all of the possible ways to call those functions
(each of them has many), only the methods from the functions you already
wrote.

For example, Matlab's mapprofile() gets the data from the current figure if
nargin is 0. You can just give an error in that case saying that interactive
usage is not yet implemented.

About the STRM files I can't find any information about this file format.
