Follow-up Comment #4, patch #8513 (project octave):
You are right, the name of the mission is SRTM. The format in which the SRTM
data is mainly distributed is referred as SRTM format or hgt format. The
common file extension for this format is .hgt.
The function srtm in srtm.m reads a .hgt file and delivers a matrix containing
its data.
On the other hand, I have found some interesting functions for mapping
distributed under BSD license in this site:
