The proposed GL_EXT_render_target extension would be more useful because it is:
a) windowing system independent
b) a LOT easier to program.

Speaking of which, when is ARB_render_texture going to be available in
Nvidia's drivers on GNU/Linux? Or even better, the superbuffer extension?
It would make this sort of operation a lot faster, when you don't intend
to read it back to main memory, anyway.
