A more important criteria than space is what a reader/viewer will do
if an alpha channel is present. If an alpha channel is present, the
reader is likely to do many things it would otherwise not do,
therefore wasting time and possibly obtaining somewhat different
results. So I recommend not outputting an alpha channel unless it is
expected to be used.
