The whole watched/normal/ignored thread thing is changing now, within the
context of scoring, as in the 0.14 betas (0.13.9x). Basically, "watched" is
being redefined as scored "very high" (normally 9999), while "ignored" is
being redefined as low scored (normally negative, the threshholds are
configurable, however). I believe that within that context, read/unread
status should now be visible as well, but don't personally use either scoring
or watched/ignored, only binary keep/delete type filters, which fit my needs
just fine, so can't verify that personally.
Anyway, with the whole thing in flux right now, discussing the old behavior is
a bit pointless, and the new behavior isn't settled down enough to describe
with any finality either, so your best bet is to either jump in on the beta
and give feedback on it, if you aren't afraid of the instability, or wait for
0.14.0 stable and see if it solves your problem, if you don't want to run
betas.
