Hmm..  For a moment, there, I was confused..  My first name is John also,
and since this was in direct reply to me.. <g> I even use KMail too, but
didn't use it THERE, since I use PAN on the gmane.org list2news gateway
for the groups, which caused even MORE confusion.. I was wondering if you
remembered my name from an earlier comment or what.. and it didn't seem to
directly address my comment anyway.. then I saw the grandfather
attribution.. <g>

Actually, that's one of the reasons I took to just using "Duncan", first
in meat-space, and then in the groups/lists, when one group I was in had
another "John Duncan".  I've yet to see anyone else online going by just
"Duncan" however, and the name is rare enough as a singular handle (or
first name) in meat-space it has never caused me problems there either,
altho there IS a boy of about 10 in the neighborhood with the name.

Others with the name John can probably identify..  I even worked with a
Donna at one point, and we were always answering to each other's names (or
failing to answer to our own because we THOUGHT it was the other), because
the main thing heard in both cases was "ON".

Anyway.. the way I usually explain it, when asked why I go by "Duncan"..
"There's always to many 'Johns' around.. unless you NEED one!"  <g>  

(BTW, as some have no doubt already observed, my comment referenced above
was in response to a post that's now a bit stale.  PAN originally errored
out due to my cable internet being temporarily out, when I tried to post
it.  It sat in my "send later" folder for some time, b4 I cleaned it out
after another post landed in there.)
