If other good newsreaders have the same features as Pan, what would be the
deciding factor?

(Personally, there are some things I'd like to see in Pan, but I'm snowed 
under with an [expletive] Java project at the moment, and surely contributing 
meaningfully to Pan would be a non-trivial undertaking.)
