make sure there is nothing outside the <? ?> in the header.inc.php file, not 
even
spaces or tabs or newlines.  Also check line 43 and see if there is anything 
obvios
out of place.  And what versio did you install and was it rpm or tarball or....
Mandrake has a rpm that doesn't install well.
