strange... it starts fine up to a segfault after opening the windows for
me... with CVS from last week...
the only change is that protux doesn't use libtool anymore, and filters
are directly linked into the app (and not into a static lib which is
linked to the app).

first try: run ldconfig as root again...preferably after adding
/usr/local/lib to your /etc/ld.so.conf)
second try: do a 'make distclean', and rerun ./configure and make
again... but as it compiles fine, i don't see why this should change the
runtime behavior.
