     Ok, an update on compiling under Solaris:

     I've gotten a executable pspp file now, but when I do a make check I
     now get the following for each of the tests:

     Making check in tests
     make[1]: Entering directory `/export/home/mdb/srcfiles/pspp-0.4.0/tests'
       /usr/local/bin/make  check-TESTS
     make[2]: Entering directory `/export/home/mdb/srcfiles/pspp-0.4.0/tests'
     ./command/aggregate.sh:
     STAT_CONFIG_PATH=/export/home/mdb/srcfiles/pspp-0.4.0/config: is not an
     identifier
     FAIL: command/aggregate.sh

That's because Solaris by default uses a traditional Bourne shell, and the
tests are written in GNU bash.
If you replace the line

 export STAT_CONFIG_PATH=$top_srcdir/config

with

 STAT_CONFIG_PATH=$top_srcdir/config
 export STAT_CONFIG_PATH

then that should fix that particular problem.

But it's quite likely that there are other Bash specific constructs in the
tests. I suppose we should either:

a) purge all the tests of Bash specific things;

OR

b) change the header of the tests from #!/bin/sh to #!/bin/bash
