GUI interface through syntax

A question regarding John Darrington's suggestion:

Can this be done within a syntax listing (GUI) by directing the output with a 
syntax command line?

I'm using the MinGW binary version--tables and listings seem to be cut off at 
40 characters or so.  Can this be adjusted to 80?
