I am as always impressed at the speed and usefulness of your responses.
Do you think its best then that i just upgrade to 11.4?
Or do you think its not a good idea to include this option by default?
perhaps yet another switch? :-/

its just that I would prefer to have a packaged version of some sort -  i
have alot of machines all doing rdiff-backups and need a robust easy to
deploy and admin solution...
