Hrmm...
Is yenta_socket mentioned in /etc/sysconfig/pcmcia?

Let's try:
/sbin/service network stop
/sbin/service pcmcia stop
/sbin/rmmod yenta
/sbin/rmmod (anything else pcmcia related...)
...
/sbin/service pcmcia start
/sbin/service network start
tail -50 /val/log/messages > log.out

And attach log.out to your reply if this doesn't help.
Also, can you provide the laptop model info?
