A package was submitted to savannah.gnu.org.
This mail was sent to address@hidden, address@hidden

Thierry Benita <address@hidden> described the package as follows:
License: lgpl
Other License:
Package: Easy install
System name: startinstall
This package wants to apply for inclusion in the GNU project

My project intends to provide a standard install package that will work on any
Linux platform.

The starting point is that most of the potentially new Linux users are used in
a simple user friendly OS and are not able to learn the complexity of a Linux
system. Therefore they won\'t be able to migrate to a Linux system even if they
would like to.

In order to change that we need to provide them some tools that lower the
complexity of the basic functionnalities (install or upgrade of drivers,
install a new application, remove it, etc..)
Some distributions already have made some great improvements in the install
process of the system.

It is still verry difficult for a complete newby to install a new application
and manage the dependances of packages.

This project will provide the developpers a tool that will embeed all the
elements needed for a complete install. It will include the packages that are
needed, all the sources in order to recompile everything if needed (and then
upload the resulting binary files for the other users that might need it), and
will adapt itself to the system in order to follow its rules and
particularities.

The users will have either a cd rom, a big packaged file, or a web based
install. If the web solution is choosen the install process will retreive only
the needed files regarding the configuration of the user.

This install process does not exist yet but I\'m working on it and will accept
any idea or suggestion.
