Baatchit is a Media Lab Asia project led by Jiva Institute that aims to 
facilitate Information Access, Communication, Entertainment and
socio-economic Opportunities (ICEO) within villages, while promoting
traditional heritage and cultural values. 

The Baatchit program computer runs a visually oriented, ‘Community Software 
System’, which enables people to access information and communicate with each 
other with little need for written language or computer literacy. The Baatchit 
software is being developed keeping in mind cross-platform compatibility. Jiva 
programmers have established key attributes for the Baatchit software:
* Picture Component
* Iconic Interface Design
* Video Component
* Community Software System 

We would like to open-source the core of the Baatchit project, the Baatchit 
Community Software on savannah.

The software is under development and various stages of testing in villages in 
India.
