A package was submitted to savannah.nongnu.org
This mail was sent to address@hidden, address@hidden
Laurent Caillette <address@hidden> described the package as follows:
License: gpl
Other License:
Package: Cachalot
System name: cachalot
Type: non-GNU
Description:
Cachalot is a batch-oriented application container. Its primary goal is to
manipulate Web content : retrieve, transform, archive, index, and notify that
changes have occured.
A Cachalot application (known as a Cachalette) is mainly a graph of components,
which exchanges Contents asynchronously and perform operations described above.
Content is the basic data unit, as seen by Cachalot. It can be a single RSS
feed, or a huge bunch of web pages with tons of binary files. Content is stored
in a filesystem-like structure. The ContentType may define higher-level access
semantics.
Cachalot architecture defines minimal contracts between the components and the
Cachalot container. This helps writing tests for now, and in a far future a
distributed version of Cachalot could run Cachalettes written for the local
version without any change.
Cachalot intends to be a pure Java application. Early version may rely on
platform-dependant binaries (like WGet).
Other Software Required:
Many Apache Java products : Ant, Avalon, Xerces, Xalan, Commons, Log4J, Forrest.
http://jakarta.apache.org
http://xml.apache.org
Jetty, a pure Java HTTP server.
http://jetty.mortbay.org
JUnit, the standard tool for Java regression tests.
http://junit.org
HttpUnit, a library emulating Web browser behavior for content retrieval.

Other Comments:
Hi,
I\'ve no URL to provide for the source code, so I sent it to address@hidden
with the subject \'Cachalot project : source code\'.
This code relies on some JDK 1.4 features. It has only be ran under Sun\'s JDK,
and we\'re aware that we should make it run with latest version of Kaffee. This
should be an easy thing, since Apache libraries provide replacements for JDK
1.4 features we need.
