Description:
------------
SLAMPP is a small bootable linux live CD (less than 150 MB) which has main
function serving web documents or applications directly from CDROM. Therefore
there is no harddisk required and it makes it a very handy tool to show your
projects to others without carrying all stuffs with you. All system files
which are small in size will be read and stored in RAM of the computer,
meanwhile other big data will be mounted and accessed from the CD. By applying
this method the need of memory capacity will be reduced drastically, which is
in favor of performance improvement.
In practice everyone can employ this live CD for any thinkable purposes.
Beside its main feature as a web server which is powered by Apache, MySQL, PHP
and Perl, man can use it as DHCP server and firewall as well. The well known
firewall packages for Linux such as Shorewall and Firestarter will be included
and Webmin will be intensively used to administer the system. What man should
do is just inserting the CD in the CDROM and the system will run
automatically. After that, all default configurations will be loaded and your
are ready to go.
What powers up the live CD:
- Slackware Linux 10.1 with kernel 2.6.11.8 (http://slackware.com)
All unnecessary packages will be removed and only what left behind will be
used. Thus, a very lite version of Slackware Linux. Xfce will replace KDE or
Gnome as Desktop system. No office and multimedia packages will be included.
Just pure web server, mail serever, dhcp server, dns server and firewall.
- Linux live script (http://linux-live.org)
This script is used to make all work making the live CD easily.
- Apache web server. (http://www.apache.org)
- Database: MySQL (http://www.mysql.org)
- Programming language: PHP (http://www.php.net) and Perl
(http://www.perl.org)
- DHCP server/client (http://www.isc.org/index.pl?/sw/dhcp/)
- DNS server: BIND (http://www.isc.org/index.pl?/sw/bind/)
- Firewall: Shorewall (http://www.shorewall.net) and Firestarter
(http://www.fs-security.com/)
- Mail server: Sendmail (http://www.sendmail.org/)
To include the web documents or applications, you burn the CD as multisession
CD. After burning the ISO of SLAMPP onto the CD, just make another session to
add the applications. If everything is done, you can start the CD and have a
sit as it will automatically run your application.
The development itself will be carried by me. The CD will be updated regularly
when new updates of packages included in the CD are ready to use and when bugs
are found. I will also keep in touch with the development of Slackware linux
and linux live script as they are the backbone of this live CD.
