######### REGISTRATION DETAILS #########

Full Name:
----------
 PyGpsWeb

System Group Name:
-----------------
 pygpsweb

Type:
-----
 non-GNU software & documentation

License:
--------
GNU General Public License V2 or later

Description:
------------
PyGpsWeb ( http://www.ufoot.org/pygpsweb ) is an online GPS (Global
Positionning System) data editor. It allows you to view and edit waypoints,
routes, and tracks. It is free software, released under the terms of the
GPL.

I need this to view and/or edit points and path, imported and/or exported to
a lightweight GPS device. This is because I run a lot. Basically I could do
this with GPSMan ( http://www.ncc.up.pt/gpsman/ ), but the idea is to do
this with a web application, using interesting technologies like Python,
PostGreSQL / PostGIS, itools, UMN MapServer, Mozilla / XUL and Google Maps.
My purpose is to fit my needs as well as to have fun and prove myself that I
can code this kind of things 8-)

If you want to try it out, you can check the demonstration site (
http://ufoot.hd.free.fr/pygpsweb/demo/py/ ) .
* login : test
* password : test
Of course final release will be different, but it still gives a good idea of
where the project is heading.

Other Software Required:
------------------------
 Apache: http://httpd.apache.org/
Python: http://www.python.org/
mod_python: http://www.modpython.org/
PostGreSQL: http://www.postgresql.org/
PostGIS: http://postgis.refractions.net/
Itools: http://www.ikaaro.org/itools/
UMN MapServer: http://mapserver.gis.umn.edu/
Mozilla: http://www.mozilla.org/

PS: PostGIS and UMN MapServer have themselves a bazillion of dependencies. I
didn't mention them here, for they are somewhat implicit, and PyGpsWeb does
not access theses low-level elements directly.

Other Comments:
---------------
Current 0.1.0 release has a default which I believe is a problem to be
hosted on Savannah. The source code files do not have a proper copyright info
mentionning it's Free Software blah blah blah Temple Place. I just updated
this, and now it should be fixed, as can be seen on the web demo for
instance, in JavaScript sources:
http://ufoot.hd.free.fr/pygpsweb/demo/js/main.js
If you want to check out the whole project, download the latest snapshot, it
should be updated nightly on: http://ufoot.hd.free.fr/snapshot/pub/

Other remark: Google Maps is used as a service in PyGpsWeb. Therefore one
could maybe identify a "rely on non-free software" pattern here. However, 1)
I only use Google as a service to serve the background maps and handle a few
points and 2) there's this the UMN MapServer alternative, so Google Maps
remains an option, and isn't mandatory.
