There were a lot of reasons, from what I could tell. The old Yahoo
screen list became more or less an "elitist" list, where nothing
positive was getting done what-so-ever. Yahoo's mailing list
environment is pretty lame, with banner ads everywhere, random "Click
here to continue" garbage, and of course the fact that you're forced to
sign up for a Yahoo account before you can join the list.
