Yeah, it certainly used to do it, although I've always been a bit
doubtful about the code's correctness. But I don't see any changes in
the code in question, it's in FeedItems.py, and seems to me it hasn't
been touched in a while.

A quick test shows that the latest version (well, a version where I
merged Jan's mainline to mine) still checks for guid and recognizes when
an existing item was changed and marks that as unread. So it does work,
at least in theory. However, it wouldn't be the first time it acts
funky.
