YES! That was the solution.  You are very nice.  For general information,
I went into /blt2.1/cf/config.sub and changed every instance of [345]86 to
[3456]86, saved, ran configure again, and made it.  I got the usual
long list of warnings, but bltwish compiled and the examples run great.
