what You probably could do, is use xvidcap, a program for capturing any
rectangular area of an X display and save it in a series of xwd, ppm or
png files. rate of frames per second is adjustable. step mode is
available. should work.

anyway, it would be a good idea to have a solution for that kind of
problem in swarm itself, so I'd see xvidcap as a workaround.
