Raster movies

Hey!

Well, I used Nelson's zoomraster movies to get snapshots
with Swarm-1.1.  (If anyone's interested, I'll post the
patches for the Swarm 1.1.) But, I have two further questions:

1) What's the best package to create movies out of 
separate images.  By 'best' I mean, is easiest to 
use, is as close to free as possible, works on both
unix and Windows, writes mpegs, avi, animated gif, etc.
It needs to be usable by non-programmers.

2) Will the same hack (with minor perturbations) work under
the Windows framework Marcus put in place?
